The brain child of UK woodturning Youtubers Mike Waldt, Steve Twydell and Martin Saban-Smith, the UK & Ireland Woodturning Symposium was spawned from an initial idea of a few turners meeting for a pint and some sandwiches at some time in 2016.

Within two weeks of the three of them getting together, the symposium had taken shape with a buzzing Facebook group and messages and offers of help from all over the UK, Ireland, Europe and the US. Later, they were joined by Rob Venus whose enthusiasm for the event and his media knowledge was a great asset to the team.

In the end, the 2016 UKIWS event was a massive success. There were over 700 people through the doors of the weekend and they had a great time. The traders there did well, the pro-demos went down a treat and the organisers were cajoled into doing it all again in 2017! Read more about the event here.

So here we are organising the next one. Martin, Steve and Rob return to put together the 2017 event with the help of Ian Maude, Frank Fitzpatrick and Ligia Rodrigues, and between them, they will make sure that the event in July will be bigger, better, and just as friendly as the 2016 one.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all there!
