UKIWS demonstrators – Gary Lowe

Over the next few days, I will be featuring our demonstration turners, including our Masterclass demonstrators.  To start with, here is Gary Lowe. In his own words…

Gary Lowe (The Tartan Turner)

Born in Glasgow in 1966.  Started my working career in the local Shipyards and then went into the RAF as an Aircraft Engineer, where I served all over the world for 22 years.  On retiring from the Air Force went into the Oil and Gas industry and the renewables sector.

Now live in the Scottish Highlands.

Initially started woodturning in 2001 and am completely self – taught apart from the usual magazines and DVD’s etc. Gave up the craft for a couple of years but then got the bug again and have been turning ever since.

I like all avenues of turning and am not afraid to experiment.  I’m going through a big phase of colouring now which is most enjoyable.  Last year I completed the AWGB Demonstrator and Tutor courses which I really enjoyed, and am now doing Demonstrations and tuition hopefully passing on any knowledge I have gained over the years.

Gary is renowned for his ‘Cosmic Clouds’ colouring style and is sure to be a demonstration you won’t want to miss.  A couple of his pieces are shown below and he will be at the lathe on Saturday, 15th July at 2:30pm.
