The UK’s Biggest Woodturning Symposium? We Hope So.

FBTHUMBIt has been a crazy week since Mike and Martin announced the initials plans for what could turn out to be the UK’s biggest woodturning event in recent years.

The dates and venue have been confirmed as being the 18th and 19th June 2016 at the Hilton Hotel in Coventry with set-up to start on the evening of Friday 17th June.

There is a lot to do in organising an event like this, and Mike Waldt, Steve Twydell and Martin Saban-Smith who are organising it have been (hopefully affectionately) nicknamed the The Three Amigos on the events buzzing Facebook page and associated group.

Mike Waldt. the man behind the idea.
Mike Waldt: The man behind the idea.

Bedfordshire based Mike Waldt is looking after UK based woodturning clubs, exhibitors and sponsors, Hampshire based Martin Saban-Smith is taking care of UK based demonstrators, the website, press and PR aswell as  general queries about the event whilst Ireland based Steve Twydell is sorting out Ireland based clubs, exhibitors, sponsors, demonstrators and worldwide YouTubers.

There has been a terrific amount of support already for the event with pledges of support from all over the world, and reports of flights and hotel rooms being booked this far in advance.

Mike’s original idea of a meet-up of UK turners has exploded into what will become a fabulous event bringing turners together from (now) all over the world, and not just the UK – something Mike had not imagined at the every beginning a little over a month ago.

Suppliers Meeting Turners

The event is bringing together a lot of turners in one place, and would therefore be a fabulous opportunity for woodturning suppliers to meet their customers in an informal atmosphere and gain more customers too.

The three amigos would love to hear from any UK or Ireland woodturning supplier who would be interested in attending the event as an exhibitor or even a sponsor. The costs for each will be released next week to those on the mailing lists.

Sponsoring the Event

Sponsoring the event is a sure way to get a mass of publicity for the sponsors of the event. The organisers are looking for four main sponsors. They have put together fabulous packages for one Gold sponsor, one Silver Sponsor and two bronze sponsors which include premium exhibition space and a raft of publicity as well as other benefits too. For more information, join the trade mailing list here and you will be sent the information. Or, contact Mike Waldt and he will be very pleased to assist you with UK enquiries, or Steve Twydell can help if you are based in Ireland..

EarlyBird-UKIWS-01Visiting the Event – Take Advantage of Earlybird Offers

The event couldn’t happen without people visiting it! There is a special mailing list for people wishing to register their interest in attending. On each page of the website, there is a visitor sign-up form for you to join. Those on the list will be given details of the Earlybird ticket prices* as well as details of a preferential room rate at the hotel*. there are over 100 people on the list as of 31st October, and the event details were only released earlier this week!

Demonstrations

You couldn’t put on a show like this without demonstrations, and UKIWS is contacting some of the biggest names in UK and Irish turning to bring to you a first class collection of turning glory. On top of that, some of the UK’s top amateur turners will also be demonstrating at the event too. Are you a UK based demonstrator and would like to know more? Contact Martin Saban-Smith for more information or Steve Twydell if you are in Ireland.

Support

The Three Amigos have had an enormous amount of support and offers of support from the world over, and they are incredibly grateful to each and every person who will be giving the event a plug in a video, on a website, newsletter, Facebook, Twitter and who knows where else! Please keep up the good work, and this really could turn out to be the biggest turning event in the UK and Ireland.
